Daily Devotional: Mark 10

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45)

James and John asked for seats of honor, and the other ten grew angry. All twelve were still measuring greatness the way the world does. Jesus turned that ladder upside down: in his kingdom, the great one serves. He lived what he taught, washing feet, eating with outcasts, and laying down his life. That is how Christ reigns as King: he gives himself away, and his crown is a cross. His Church follows the same shape, serving its neighbors faithfully.

Prayer: King Jesus, you gave your life for us. Teach us to lay down our comfort and serve as you served, with eyes for the overlooked and hands ready to help. Amen.
