Daily Devotional: Mark 8

“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.” (Mark 8:29)

Others had their opinions about Jesus. Some called him prophet, teacher, wonder worker. Peter named him the King God had promised. That confession still draws the line for his people today. A church can admire Jesus and copy his kindness, and still miss who he is. To call him Messiah is to stand under his reign, trusting his word and following him toward a cross. Jesus made the cost plain: whoever follows him must take up a cross. That is the life of his Church: confessing our King, walking where he leads.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, our Messiah and King, give us Peter’s clarity. Help us confess you with our lips and follow you with our lives, even when following costs us. Amen.
