“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.” (Matthew 13:45-46)
The merchant had spent his life hunting fine pearls, and he knew their worth the moment he saw this one. He did not hesitate. He went and sold everything he had to make it his. We tend to follow Jesus with one eye on the price, as if the Kingdom were a tax on life. This man shows a different arithmetic: everything he gave up was small beside what he gained. What are you still clutching? Lay it down, and take hold of Him.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, pearl of great price, I lay down my everything and take hold of You. Make my life a joyful surrender. Amen.
