“We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered. “Bring them here to me,” he said. (Matthew 14:17-18)
The disciples did the math: five loaves, two fish, thousands of hungry people. The conclusion was obvious: it wasn’t enough. We do the same, declaring what we have too small for what God is asking. Jesus didn’t ask for more. He said, “Bring them here to me.” They didn’t need more resources; they needed to put the little they had into his hands. What you call “only” is exactly what he asks for. Five loaves and two fish, surrendered, fed a multitude. He still multiplies what we hand over when we stop clutching it.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I keep calling what I have too small. Take it, little as it is, and use it in your hands. I give you my “only.” Amen.
