Daily Devotional: Matthew 23

“For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (Matthew 23:12)

Matthew 23 is Jesus’ sternest warning: leaders who polished the outside of the cup with unclean hearts inside. They loved titles, honored seats, and public prayers, a performance for people that God saw through. Jesus grieves for teachers who shut the kingdom’s door on those they were meant to welcome. The warning reaches everyone who leads, teaches, or ministers. God weighs the motive; the crowd only watches the show. Measure your life where nobody applauds; holiness is formed there. In God’s kingdom the way up is down: on your knees first, then at the feet of others.

Prayer: Father, keep me from playing to the crowd. Make me as honest in secret as I appear in public. Give me Christ’s servant heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.
