“Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.’” (Matthew 16:16)
Jesus put the question to his disciples on the road to Caesarea Philippi, and he puts it to us: who do you say I am? Peter’s answer was not borrowed from the crowd; it was revealed by the Father in heaven. Many admire Jesus from a safe distance, but admiration never saved anyone. Confessing him as Messiah means placing your life and your future in his hands. Hours after this confession Peter stumbled badly, yet Jesus still named him a rock and promised to build his church on that confession. What you believe about Jesus decides what you do with Jesus. Settle the question today.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, you are the Messiah, the Son of the living God. Let my life confess what my lips declare. Amen.
