“On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.” — Matthew 2:11 (NIV)

The Magi traveled hundreds of miles, yet Herod’s scholars knew the Scriptures and never made the short trip to Bethlehem. Seeking is worship: the Magi followed the star, bowed down, and opened their treasures. Gold for a King, frankincense for God, myrrh for the death He would die for us — the whole gospel in three gifts. Herod’s way is grasping and fear; the Magi’s way is seeking and surrender. True worship always costs something, and it always brings us to our knees. What will you lay before Jesus today?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, lead me by Your light and teach me to worship with open hands and a bowed heart. Amen.
